AI-driven manufacturing meets the Japanese market in Shanghai

On December 17, 2025, Universal Balloon Medical took part in the third “Japan Jo!nting” roadshow, a health-technology matchmaking event hosted in Shanghai and online by the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO), Shanghai Representative Office. The program connects Chinese companies with Japanese enterprises, local governments and industry organizations.

The event was co-organized with the Japanese Commerce and Industry Clubs in Shanghai and Hangzhou, and drew participation from Japanese banks and from prefectures and cities including Ibaraki, Kanagawa, Aichi and Fukuoka, and Osaka, Yokohama and Kobe.

A shared challenge: aging populations

In his opening remarks, Shinya Amano, Director of JETRO Shanghai, framed population aging as a social challenge common to both China and Japan, noting that Japan’s population aged 65 and over reached roughly 36 million in 2023. Deputy Director Daisuke Takamura outlined JETRO’s services for Chinese companies investing in Japan and gave an overview of China’s health-technology landscape — part of JETRO’s goal of welcoming overseas companies that help address Japan’s labor shortages and advance its digital transformation.

AI-driven manufacturing for interventional devices

Representing Universal Balloon Medical, Chen Lu, our VP of Overseas Markets & Corporate Strategy, presented on the application of AI in the manufacturing of implantable and interventional medical devices. The talk highlighted the company’s core equipment — balloon forming systems with water-jacket temperature control, laser welding, and in-house AI defect detection — and how machine vision and deep learning raise yield, consistency and traceability across the production line.

Building cooperation with Japanese partners

Following the presentation, the Universal Balloon Medical team held discussions with Japanese regional organizations and medical-sector agencies, and signed a letter of intent for cooperation — an encouraging step as the company expands its engagement with the Japanese market.

We thank JETRO Shanghai and the co-organizers for the opportunity to share our vision for intelligent, high-precision medical device manufacturing.
